How does it work?
Mediation offers a safe, confidential space for participants to have what can sometimes be a difficult conversation.
- The Mediator is bound by a Code of Ethics
- S/he plays an essential neutral and impartial role in the process
- S/he explores the needs and concerns of the participants
- S/he helps the participants to find a solution to their difficulties, where possible to find a mutually acceptable solution.
What are the steps?
- The Mediator has one-to-one meetings with each of the participants to learn about how they see the situation and to gain their committment and trust
- When they agree to participate the mediator then holds a joint session or sessions with the participants
- In joint session the mediator facilitates a conversation between the particpants to clarify their needs and concerns before going on to identify options for resolution
- In many cases agreement is reached and Mediation has an excellent success rate.
